LOCATION:
Crown Center, 5005 Rockside Rd.,

Motors and VFDs: How They Work, When They Fail, and What You Can Do This presentation will first review the theory of operation for electric motors and variable frequency drives (VFD), including making the business case for switching to premium efficient motors and employing VFDs. We will then consider the many failure modes of both motors and VFDs, especially the failures that are caused by their interaction. Root causes will be reviewed along with solutions for each failure mode. Actual examples from industrial applications will be presented. Sustainable Energy Services serves its customers on both sides of the utility meter. Their mission is to help clients minimize the risks inherent in the energy purchasing process as well as when implementing projects that reduce energy consumption. SES is an objective and independent energy expert serving as the owner’s representative, which allows them to bridge the knowledge gap that can exist between building owners and energy suppliers or technical contractors and engineers. Their services include energy procurement, demand response, energy auditing and related energy engineering services. SES also works with owners when planning new construction. New buildings that are energy efficient have greater market value as well as lower monthly utility bills.
